Fabric & Flowers for May

This month for our group post we were tasked to be inspired by Fabric and Flowers for our team post (WOW! Embossing Powder...6 Girls & a Smoking Gun).

And here is my project....

I decided I wanted to make a mini-album for my niece, Aly, of her first year of track. Instead of using "Track" themed paper I decided to go with something a little more Aly's style...pink & purple!!

I still have some journaling to do and a few more pages to complete, but it is well on its way to being complete!

  • WOW EMBOSSING POWDERS: Black Glint Powder, Clear Gloss Regular, Sierra Sunrise
  • STAMPS: Wow! “Brocade”

    Inspired by Spring

Back with another team post for WOW! Embossing Powders...

Our team, “6 Girls and a Smoking Gun” seems to have been inspired by the WOW! Embossing Stamp set as a centerpiece for most of our projects and everyone took a fresh approach to color, style and technique. Enjoy!! This is a fabulous collection!

And here is my Spring project....
I started with a plain black gift bag and turned it into this amazing creation! The butterflies are made out of used dryer sheets. First, she colored the dryer sheet with Adirondack Color Wash Spray. Then they were covered with 2 embossing powders from the Suzy West Pantry Collection; Nutmeg, Honey, and also Gold Rich Pale powder and heated. I never tried to emboss on dryer sheets before, but they turned out great and the powder melts really fast on dryer sheets. Just be sure to get your gun hot before putting over the embossing powder and don't hold it over too long or you will melt your dryer sheet!

    This Recipe Is For . . . .

Here is my project that is posted today on the WOW! Embossing Powder, U.S. Blog.

Today's project is really simple and anyone can do it, I promise!

When Jen Deal suggested recipe cards for me of course I started to make this into a very complicated project like I usually do. But then I got to thinking, keep it simple for a change Sherrie! So I got to thinking, my husband was given a homemade recipe book by his mom when he moved out after graduating high school. To this day we still have that homemade recipe book filled with Brian's favorite recipe's from growing up and we still use it from time to time. Our daughter is 21 and a junior in college, which means pretty soon that is going to be done and she will be moving out and on her own. Brian and I have talked about starting a recipe book for her of her favorites for her to take when she moves out. So this was my inspiration. But like I said, this time I was going to keep it simple. While going through my stash of cookbooks and recipes I found this pack of recipe cards.

So I'm looking at these recipe cards and it hits me, why not just alter these by coloring the flowers and butterfly? That would be so simple but add such a colorful and home made feel to them. Hopefully it would make the person that receives them feel special!

Of course the color patterns and combinations would be endless for coloring the flowers. For the first card I chose to use all six (6) colors from the Suzy West Candy Counter Collection. I think it made for a really fun and bright recipe card!
To emboss the flowers I used a WOW! Clear Embossing Pen and inked the petals of the flowers. Now I only did one color at a time. By this I mean I inked the petals of four or five flowers, covered them with powder, removed the extra powder, and then heated that color. I then repeated the process for the next color of flowers. And so on until I used all six colors. This way I made sure my colors didn't get mixed.

The second card I colored them all with Suzy West Candy Counter Berrylicious.

Here is a close up of the flowers. I finished off each flower by adding a round clear bling to all the centers to make them sparkle.

Aren't those just the cutest recipe cards? And wasn't that soooooo simple? I also embossed the butterfly in the upper right hand corner.

So which way do you like the recipe cards better, multi-color or all the same?

    Warmly,
    Sherrie

It's Your Lucky Day! Techniques Galore!

Hello, friends! I’m excited to bring you another installment of art from the talented “7 Girls & a Smoking Gun” design team. We are so lucky to be part of a great crafting company with vibrant embossing powders, delightful stamps, and daily inspiration from our global team of designers.
Here is my project that I created for our group post....

Altering this wooden window frame was so much fun. For my husband’s side of the family St. Patrick’s Day is a big deal and since it is getting close we are all getting excited. Everyone puts on their Irish t-shirts and other items and celebrates their family’s heritage. We always have corn beef, cabbage and potatoes for dinner. I even started making pistachio salad for desert (just because its green and everyone loves it!) The kids drink green Kool-Aid or put food coloring in clear pop/water to make it green. But one thing we are very picky about is our clovers - its 3 leaves for us!
Don't you just love the use of green and yellow for this themed page??

And now for some close up's:
